may lead to serious marital problems leading straight to divorce in some cases. This is not to say that in every case Viagra will lead to divorce, however if you consider the facts, it could be a topic for discussion.
Coming onto the bedroom scene over 10 years ago, Viagra has been for a lot of men, a way to regain their lost virility, a part of their lost youth. Well known is the fact that it’s one of the best selling drugs in the world today, and according to the latest statistics, over 25 million men worldwide have taken the erectile dysfunction drug since it was released in the market.
Problem with Viagra
The main problem with taking Viagra, according to some experts, is that many men take the drug without consulting with their partners first, jumping into it without telling their partners first, so their partners would be emotionally and physically prepared for it as well. Many women have stated that they are taken aback by their husbands seeking more activity in bed and are now unable to respond in the way that their husbands are expecting. In a report by Dr. Alan Altman and Suki Hanfling entitled “Sexuality in Midlife and Beyond” it mentions that while Viagra may help resolve certain marital and relationship issues which are caused by erectile dysfunction, taking Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs can also cause other maritial issues.
According to this report, “When intercourse is suddenly a possibility again, relationship issues can emerge or resurface, as can dramatic differences in libido. The bottom line is that couples should try to regard these drugs as an opportunity to renew their sexual relationship, while realizing that ED drugs are neither a mandate to have intercourse nor a panacea for every problem in the bedroom.”
Down the divorce road
Men who have a sudden renewed self-esteem and sex drive because of the recovered capability to have sex may look for satisfaction with other sex partners, if they are not receiving what they are expecting in bed from their maritial partner at home. This, as well as other possible factors may lead to a breakdown in marriage, resulting in divorce.
